Short Description:

The AS1-X & AS1-X-HP Mechanical Production Packer is a retrievable, double-grip compression or tension-set production packer, it can be left in tension, compression, or neutral position, and can hold pressure from above or below. Product Description

The AS1-X & AS1-X-HP Mechanical Production Packer is a retrievable, double-grip compression or tension-set production packer, it can be left in tension, compression, or neutral position, and can hold pressure from above or below. A large internal bypass reduces the swabbing effect during run-in and retrieval, and closes when the packer is set.

When the packer is released, the bypass opens first, allowing the pressure to equalize before the upper slips are released. The packer features have an upper-slip releasing system that reduces the force required to release the packer. A non-directional slip is released first, made it easily to release the other slips.

The AS1-X-HP packer is a high pressure version which based on AS1-X packer. The packer can choose the slips in wicker body or in carbide insert.

Features/Description

Holds high pressure differentials from above or below.

Can be set in tension, compression and neutral position.

Only one-quarter right-hand rotation is required to set and release.

Field-proven releasing system.

Optional safety-releasing features available upon request for AS1-X packer.

Elastomer options available for hostile environments.

Bypass valve is below upper slips so the debris is washed from slips when the valve is opened.

Effectively meets several requirements for zonal isolation, injection, pumping, and production.

Resettable at low pressures for the size less than or equal to 7 5/8”: 5,000 psi at 275°F, 3,000 psi at 300°F.

Note:

*The maximum working pressure of packing elements system 80-60-80 is 6000 psi.

When running tool in the lower temperature range, use a softer packing element for better performance. Example: if the well temperature is 200°F, instead of using 95-80-95(200-300°F) use a 90-80-90(100-275°F) for better performance.

III.Product Operation Instructions

1.Running Procedure

Upon reaching proper setting depth, initiate the setting by picking up at least 15” at the tool. Rotate tubing enough to ensure 1/4 round of right-hand rotation reaches the tool and set down at the same time. Application of set-down weight at the closes and seals the bypass seal, sets the slips, and packs off the Packing Elements (see the Setting Force Guide below)

Minimum Set-down Weight Required

Set-down Force Guide
Packer Size ( in ) Minimum Force Required Packer ( lbs)
4 1/2 - 5 10,000
5 1/2 - 7 5/8 22,050
9 5/8 25,000

Pick up on the tubing string to neutral at the tool. Work the tubing left and right with a pipe wrench, observing tubing rotation and feel of torque. Ensure that all initial right-hand rotation originally put in is removed. Slack off tubing weight to at least 2,000 lbs of applied weight at the tool. With a pipe wrench, apply and hold left-hand torque, then begin pulling tubing string into tension. Continue the up strain with tension over the string weight according to the chart below. Repeat a push and pull sequence at least once with no torque applied, applying whatever loads are satisfactory to accept anticipated conditions within the rated limits. Land the tubing as specified for the application.

Note: if running the AS1-X and AS1-X-HP packer with an On/Off Tool which Left-Hand to release, ensure the On/Off Tool is pinned in the shear up position. The same setting procedure will apply.

Up strain Tension Force

Tension Force Guide
Packer Size ( in ) Tension ( lbs)
4 1/2 – 5 1/2 20,000
7 – 9 5/8 25,000

Releasing

The releasing procedures are the same whether the packer has been tension or compression set. Set-down weight 500lbs minimum on the packer and rotate the tubing 1/4 turn right at the packer, then pick-up holding the right-hand torque. The internal by-pass will open, allowing pressure to equalize. Further pick-up releases the releasing sequential slip system, relaxing the elements, allowing the packer to be removed from the well. The packer can be moved and reset without tripping the pipe if the elastomers have not been permanently altered from the well environment.

Pressure Affected Areas Guide

The pressure affected areas guide is a calculation of the end area affect on the packer mandrel based on the tubing size used. This effect should be considered in conjunction with the other factors, which elongate or shrink the tubing.
