How to successfully use drilling jar?

The drilling jar converts the potential energy inside the stretched drill tools into kinetic energy. After the shock occurs, this kinetic energy transmits a power wave to the stuck drilling tools, which release  the drill tools.

1.After sticking occurs, taking the most appropriate jolting measures in the shortest time is the key to release the stuck.

2.Calculations are very simple things, but small calculations can become very complicated when problems occur.

3.Determine the upstroke or downstroke before performing the jar.

4.The jarring should be carried out in the opposite direction of the drilling tool when sticking occurs.

3.The reasons of the jarring failure

1.The force applied when jarring is not accurate.

2.The external force of the pump exceeds the compressive force of the jar.

3.Sticky stuck above the jar.

4.The drilling jar is not in its natural state.

5.High friction does not apply enough force to excite the drilling jar.

6.The wellbore trajectory prevents compression from being applied.

7.The torque to the right hits the drilling jar where the torque can be set.

8.Not waiting enough time for the drilling jar to complete the jarring.

4.Good jarring method

1.Avoid placing the drilling jar under stabilizer,roller reamer, keyway expander and other drilling tools with large outside diameters.

2.The drilling jar must be at least two drill collar lengths away from the upper centralizer.

3.The drilling jar should stand on the drill floor and not have a drill collar on it. The drilling jar must be at the very top.

4.When two drilling jars are to be used in the drilling tools assembly, the distance between them must be at least 1000ft.

5.Keep the kelly pipe or top drive on the turntable bushing with enough room to put pressure on the drill pipe.

6.Make the drilling Jar fully stretched or compressed.

7. Do not place the drilling Jar in the tool transition position, such as DC to drilling jar to HWDP.

8.Slow through resistance points to prevent accidental jolts.

9.Whenever the drilling jar goes out of the well, immediately install the movable shaft passport to prevent accidental damage to the movable shaft or accidental jar clamping to people and objects.
