Eccentric Micro-Hole Reaming Tool Boosts Drilling Efficiency

Recently, the Well Drilling and Completion Technology Center of the Drilling Engineering Technology Research Institute has successfully developed an eccentric micro-hole reaming tool, which has achieved remarkable results in oilfield drilling operations and brought a new efficiency improvement solution to the oil drilling industry.图片1

Under complex terrain conditions, traditional drilling technologies often face problems such as borehole diameter reduction, drilling resistance during tripping, and pipe sticking. These issues lead to low drilling efficiency and increased costs. To address these problems, the Well Drilling and Completion Technology Center independently developed the eccentric micro-hole reaming tool. Through the design of two sets of upper and lower counter-direction dovetail groove-type spiral cutter wings and an integrated structure, this tool realizes the dual functions of micro-reaming while drilling and back-reaming. It can effectively scrape micro-steps in the accumulation layer on the borehole wall, handle spiral boreholes, and make the borehole more regular and smoo

At present, the eccentric micro-hole reaming tool has been successfully applied in the drilling operations of more than 70 wells, with significant effects. Data shows that the number of tripping operations has decreased by 60%, the reaming time per well has been reduced by 40%, and the one-time success rate of electric logging has increased from 78% to 95%. These improvements not only enhance drilling efficiency but also reduce operation difficulty, optimize the operation process, minimize mechanical damage and operational risks, and improve the stability and safety of the drilling process.

With its innovative design, the eccentric micro-hole reaming tool has obtained two national utility model patent certifications. As the technology continues to be optimized and matured, its application fields are gradually expanding. It is expected to realize efficient drilling operations under more complex geological conditions and provide strong technical support for the industry. The application of this tool has significantly shortened the drilling cycle, while comprehensively improving the overall efficiency and accuracy of drilling operations. It has effectively reduced resource waste and equipment wear caused by operational errors or technical problems, bringing significant economic and environmental benefits to drilling engineering.
